Leicester is a smaller town in Worcester County, Massachusetts with a population of about 11,000. Leicester was an important industrial town during its early history in the late 18th century although it later transformed into a mostly residential community. There are three villages in Leicester: Cherry Valley on the east side of town, Leicester Center, and Rochdale, which is a crossroads in the southeast region of the town.
The residential real estate market in Leicester has a wide variety of properties with many historic properties built in the early part of the 20th century. The ranch style home is very popular in Leicester's older neighborhoods as well as Colonial/contemporary homes and Cape Cod style homes. Most homes in Leicester are modestly sized at under 1,500 square feet but there are many newer homes built in the last decade with more than 3,000 square feet of space.
There are few condominium or townhome developments in the town and the few there are tend to be built in the 1960s and 1970s. There are also some historic buildings that have been converted into multi-family properties.
