Acushnet is a town in Bristol County, Massachusetts, with a population just above 10,000 as of 2010. The town, which was first settled in 1659, was not incorporated until 1860. It was finally given the name Acushnet, which was based on the nearby river.
Most of Acushnet's population lives along the border of New Bedford and near the town hall in the southwest portion of the town. Since 2000, Acushnet has experienced slight growth in population. Most of the population lives in neighborhoods considered urban, but a good portion live in rural communities.
